Steig was born in New York City. Every member of his family was involved in the arts, and so it was no surprise when he decided to become an artist. In the films, Shrek was originally voiced by Chris Farley, but due to the former's death in 1997, the role was switched to Mike Myers, after several actors had turned down the role.
